Science plays a hugely important part in climate change. It brought us the combustion engine, it proved the link between our actions and global warming and it is also creating the technologies for solutions to the problem (e.g. scientists are investigating plans to reverse global warming by using giant mirrors to reflect the sun and growing algae in the sea to absorb carbon dioxide).
We’re therefore delighted to have been invited to have the next Green Drinks at the stunning Science Gallery “where ideas meet and opinions collideâ€. Those behind the gallery want the public’s opinion about how it wants science to develop. The gallery is an important means by which the public and science can come together and it’s exactly this sort of environment that will bring forth the ideas and technologies that will shape our future. It has exhibitions that change on a regular basis and ones coming up have environmental sustainability at the forefront. We hope to collaborate with these, help make them a huge success and will bring you more details as they unfold.
In the meantime, we’re getting the ball rolling next Tuesday with a wonderful guest speaker, Erik van Lennep. Erik is co-founder of The Cultivate Centre and creative director of TEPUI, a social enterprise and collaborative focused on urban greening and climate response. He has over 30 years experience in setting up innovative and effective collaborative projects with high social return in the USA and Ireland. His consultative expertise has focused upon sustainable development (e.g. multicultural inclusion, cross sectoral collaboration, awareness building and communication, environmental impacts, restoration ecology, innovation, planning and design). He is also a member of the steering group developing The Dublin Hub , a new sustainability focused enterprise space for the creative community and it is about this and the co-working community it is developing, that he will be giving a brief introduction on.
