London based artist Charlie Murphy will be leading this live body casting work shop - Exploring the Space Between Us - to see what the inside of your intimacy looks like.
Artist Charlie Murphy has been asking participants to donate casts of kisses, and other intimate spaces, to her Anatomy of Desire project since 1999. Her glass kiss sculptures - installed in Science Gallery's Love Lab exhibition, form part of this project, which explores a variety of expressions of desire through sculptures, video and performance events.
The project brings together over 10 years work and research into a variety of expressions of desire. Since 1999 Charlie has been asking participants to donate casts of kisses (and other intimate spaces) to her project and has collected all over the world through her trademark 'kiss in' events and open invitations. Asking couples, friends and strangers to hold their pose for 90 seconds, she pours a dental alginate into the negative space of the kiss and subsequently transforms their casts into glass sculptures through elaborate mould making processes. She continues to expand the series through open invitations including this weekend’s live body casting workshop, which includes an introductory talk about the artist's work.
SCHEDULE:
14:00: Charlie will present a short talk about the research and reasons for creating this work, showing examples and documentation from the kiss-in tour and the various mould making processes used.
15:00: Charlie will give a demonstration of how she creates a cast of the space between a couple 'spooning' and offers you the opportunity to contribute your unique expression of desire to this project or to come and see how its done.
Who can come?
We are inviting all combinations of couples / singles / friends / groups of friends to donate their casts of the space between us. There will be a maximum of 20 participants in the groupings of couples (for kiss cast of two people) or singles (willing to participate in group kiss). What can you cast?
Your castings may include body casts, kiss casts, group kisses and other casts that you think offer an insight into the hidden or unseen forms of intimacy.
