OSCILLATOR
EVERYTHING IN MOTION
OSCILLATOR

OSCILLATOR EXPLORES THE VIBRANT, VIBRATORY WORLD OF OSCILLATORS, OSCILLATIONS AND FEEDBACK.

What is an oscillator? Anything that vibrates, follows cycles or has repeating patterns. From swinging bridges to heart beats, and from weather cycles to musical harmonies, oscillations are everywhere. OSCILLATOR exposes the sometimes unseen motion, cycles and vibrations surrounding us in our oscillatory world.

SURFACE TENSION
THE FUTURE OF WATER
SURFACE TENSION

SURFACE TENSION: THE FUTURE OF WATER IS AN EXHIBITION THAT BRINGS TOGETHER ARTISTS, ENGINEERS, DESIGNERS AND SCIENTISTS TO EXPLORE THE FUTURE OF WATER.

Water is disposable and sacred, a muse for artists and a necessity for life, a source of healing and a cause of conflict. The Earth has abundant water, but only a very small proportion is available for human use, so how should this be managed and sustained, and what would a water-scarce future look like? SURFACE TENSION plays on the physical properties of water, its role in politics and economics, and ways in which it may be harnessed, cleaned, and distributed.

BIORHYTHM
MUSIC AND THE BODY
BIORHYTHM

BIORHYTHM: MUSIC AND THE BODY IS AN EXHIBITION THAT EXPLORES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MUSIC AND THE BODY THROUGH ART AND SCIENCE.

Inspired by music and how it permeates every culture on the planet, Science Gallery set out to produce an exhibition which explored our relationship with sound and music. What are the natural forces that drive us to sing, strum, drum and dance? What is the scientific basis of whistling, humming and toe-tapping? Our brains, ears and vocal chords are exquisitely designed for enjoying and creating music - and BIORHYTHM explores how and why we do this.

GROW YOUR OWN...

GROW YOUR OWN... IS AN UPCOMING SCIENCE GALLERY SHOW THAT WILL TACKLE THE PROVOCATIVE QUETIONS SURROUNDING SYTHETIC BIOLOGY , AN EMERGING FIELD OF GENETIC ENGINEERING.

Many of the ethical, social and cultural questions that synthetic biology raises are long-recurring themes that research at the frontiers of science provokes, such as living versus non-living, human culture versus nature, design versus evolution. Popular accounts of synthetic biology often seem to suggest that its applications are restricted only by the limits of our imagination. GROW YOUR OWN will ask how realistic these dreams are, bringing visitors into dialogue with the complex boundaries between life, non-life and the intentional design of living systems.
